MANIFESTO 2009 Power to the People!

Manifesto did it again! The 2009 festival ended at Nathan Phillips Square with a day packed with B Boy dancin', professional and do it yourself grafitti, dancing lessons, sweet merchandise for sale and most of all dope performances. Stolen from Africa was spittin' some serious thoughtful rhymes about our nation. Rochester Juice was off the chain who had some fly girls to help him dance. Promise was incredibly talented and is an artist to watch out for. Montreal native Famous tore it up minus Trinity Kris for the hit BIG MON TINGS. Zaki Ibraham helped out in back up vocals for her girl, Trini native, Ms. Tanika Charles who showed us a few warm up exercises before going onstage. T.O's hottest music producer 2 Rude himself, had to show his talent on stage with his 2 prodigies, female rapper Quinn Maeback and sexy singer Kaleb Simmons. Van City Rascalz spread their vibe all over T.O with their special guest performers K-OS and Choclair who came down with the Northern Touch. The livest performer of the night was lyrical genius K'NAAN who hit up the stage with a bangin' performance. K'NAAN reflects deep stories of the stuggles of the Somalian community and his life experiences into his philosopical music. Clearly drunk Kevin, K-OS was the last to come on stage but had to have his act cut short because Manifesto went over time. I also bumped into rapper Richie Sosa who was samplin' his mix c.d.Count Money Vol. 1 - The First Million. I suprisingly bumped into KING of New York City, legendary music producer, turntable technician DJ Premier, who started the careers of rappers like Jay Z and Nas. He was off to rehearsal for the big after party at Circa. He was going head to head with another big time Music Mon, Pete Rock. Well, I guess the hard work at rehearsals paid off because I heard that Premier killed it. I also had a chance to hit up the Manifesto hotel party and chatted with a suprisingly quiet or tired K'NAAN. He had a banana in his pocket so we broke the ice by asking him if he had a banana in his pocket or if he was just happy to see us. LOL. We also chatted for a bit with Red 1 from the Rascalz AND I seemed to have lost your digits because of my ghetto phone so if you read this............HOLLA! Special thanks goes out Manifesto's hardworking team, Cat Fawcett and Che Kothari. Can't wait for next year!

R.I.P AMACHI

In case you might have been wondering why I have not updated any posts lately, my apologies. I just recently lost the only grandma I ever knew in my life. I was praying so hard for her to stay alive because I wanted to visit her in Sri Lanka. I even told her on the phone weeks before to stay alive for me and she told me that when God asks me to come to Him, I must go. I was told that my grandmother was proud of me and that she really loved me because I never grew up with her but I loved her so much. As for my brother, he is taking this really hard because my grandma raised him. My grandmother, who we all called Amachi, passed away at the wonderful age of 85 on Good Friday September 19, 2008. R.I.P

She came to live with my family in Canada for one year and while she was hear she enjoyed the music of Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. She was a wonderful woman who died peacfully in her bed. It's just tough to see my mother so sad because I can only imagine the feeling of losing the woman who carried you for 9 months and struggled to take care of 5 children on her own after her husband passed away of cancer. Peace be with you Amachi. I know you are happier now in heaven with God and your loved ones. I know you will always watch over us.

Tina made her touring announcement first on Oprah. It's Britney Bitch Spears is on a roll. She looks very happy and getting her life back together. As if her resurrection with 3 moon mans at the MTV awards wasn't enough.....the singer announced today that she will have her next album come out on her 27 B day. Hopefully she will be alive because the singer admitted months ago that she is afraid she will not see her 27th Bday. As a gift to herself and her fans Britney will have the album on Dec 2 2008. The first single 'Womanizer' is set to hit radio September 22. Hopefully she'll promote this album and not be lazy! Britney will also be working with a few new people like The Way I are singer, Keri Hilson and Baby One More Time producer Max Martin! You go girl!

The 2008 Manifesto Festival is back and it all starts this Wednesday with Shad and Hey Ocean performing at the MOD CLUB Theatre. On Thursday, there will be a Manifesto film festival, which will be screening a documentary at the ROM, followed by some karaoke @ Revival. KARDY KNOWS HOW TO PARTY!

Ryerson's University's Parade & Picnic was a success! The Rye Hugh students marched their way to the island. It was such a dope day! St. Lucia native Gilson from MTV, came down from O Town just to be at Parade and Picnic. Zaki Ibrahim’s music is poetic. She opened up for Erica Badu. Zaki's voice amazingly captivated the audience with her power unique voice. She also sang one of her songs to the music of Lil Wayne's Lollipop. Thunderheist is also a group you should look out for because their music is very fresh and poopin'. Randy Jackson's reality show winners from Americas Best Dance crew SUPER CR3W could not hang up their dancing shoes. Those guys are awesomly talented dancers! Kardy started the Party when he brought out his hommie Socrates on stage to help him. Kardy performed on Jay Leno last night with Akon. It's OFFISHAL because in stores today is NOT FOR SALE. I had the honor of dancing on stage for Kardinal's entire show! Just call me Zebra! Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah..... CHE! CHE! That's my attempt at the infamous theme music that is Beverly Hills 90210! The spin off show premiered this past Tuesday and it may be my new guilty pleasure! The show even has two fellow Canucks such as Degrassi and Torontonian star Shenae Grimes and Yellowknifion Dustin Milligan! Nevertheless, the show will never copare to DEGRASSI! What's more interesting is the show has a token Black guy, Tristan Wilds. That's great and all but they better have more ethnic people on the show! The show also renovated the Peach PIT and Nat and will have more familiar faces such as the return of Brenda, Kelly and Donna and her husband?! That's right. Tori Spelling demanded that her husband, that Canadian actor guy who left his kids and wife from the show'What's For Dinner', have a role on the show. PFFFFFFFT.....I would rather see Brendan or David thank you very much! Dylan said he will not be appearing on the show for now.
